Buoy, a navigation mark floating on the surface of water, is anchored in the specified position, marking the channel range, indicating shoal, navigation obstruction or specialized water navigational mark.

Buoy is one type of aid to navigation. It is most widely used in the navigational aids. The buoy equipped with lamps, called light buoy, used to aid navigation in the day and night. Some of the buoy is also loaded with radar transponder, radio beacon, fog warning signals and marine survey instruments and other equipment.
